Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - A 22-year-old West Seneca man has been charged with shooting a Buffalo Police officer in the leg Saturday evening.

Police say 22-year-old Jeffery Thomas shot an officer in the leg around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The shooting took place near the corner of Eldon and Eggert Roads.

The name of the injured officer has not been released. However, a spokesman says the officer has been released from Erie County Medical Center.

Spokesman Michael DeGeorge spoke about the moments leading up to the shooting.

"The individual was apparently waiting at a bus stop and was spotted with a gun," DeGeorge said. "That's when the pursuit ensued from there."

Doctors also treated Thomas for "superficial" injuries at ECMC.

Police believe they recovered the gun used to shoot the officer.

Thomas has been charged with Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
