West Seneca Native Charged with Torturing and Injuring Animals

BROCKPORT, NY (WKBW) - Two local college students at SUNY Brockport are charged with torturing and injuring an animal after a picture surfaced on Twitter from over the weekend. The photo shows a four-to-five month old black lab mix held by its hind legs while drinking from a keg.

Police say 20-year-old Robert Yates of West Seneca and 20-year-old Shane Oliver of Bergen in Genesee County are charged with animal torture.

According to police, the incident took place on March 8 in a house on Monroe Avenue in the Village of Brockport. Investigators say the owner was not present at the time and isn't suspected to be involved.

The dog was taken into protective custody and is in good condition.

Yates is scheduled to be in court on April 2.

The College at Brockport has released the following statement:

We were alarmed to learn of this disturbing photo. The College is investigating this matter and will take appropriate action once the details surrounding the photo are learned.
