BATAVIA, N.Y (WKBW) - A Warsaw man is in jail tonight after reports of slapping and throwing a small child to the floor after yelling at him.

According to State Police, Troopers responded to the Batavia Wal-Mart for a report of a man slapping and throwing a small child to the floor after loudly yelling at him.

Responding Troopers interviewed several customers who stated they witnessed the event. A review of the surveillance camera yielded a photo of the suspect. Having no leads as to his identity the Troopers contacted “TheBatavian.com”, a local on-line web based news site.

A photo of the suspect was quickly posted with a request for the public to contact State Police if they recognized him. Within minutes of the posting leads as to the suspect’s identity began coming in.

As a result, Troopers responded to a residence on Sheppard Rd in Pavilion where the interviewed and subsequently arrested 28-year-old Christopher Cummings.

Cummings was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Harassment.

The child victim, a 7-year-old boy, is Cummings' son.

He was taken to United Memorial Medical Center to be fully examined.

Cummings was arraigned in the Town of Batavia Court and remanded to the Genesee County Jail in lieu of $2,500.00 bail.
