LEON, NY (WKBW-TV) - A two-year-old boy was killed during an accident involving an Amish buggy on Route 62 in the Town of Leon in Cattaraugus County shortly before 11a.m. Saturday morning.
Sheriff Deputies say a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe operated by 59-year-old Susan Culver or Frewsburg, NY struck a buggy operated by 31-year-old Edna Wengerd of Leon NY. The initial investigation shows Culver struck the buggy from behind while traveling north on Route 62.
Police say there were also 5 children in the buggy: 6-year-old Sarah, 1-year-old Rebecca, 2-year-old Dan, 9-year-old Johnny, 3-year-old Andrew and 3-month-old Roy.
Sarah and Rebecca were transported to Children's Hospital in Buffalo. Roy and Andrew are recovering at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk and Dan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cattaraugus County Sheriff's deputies continue to investigate the incident.
The driver of the car was not injured, and is not facing criminal charges at the time of this posting.
