Springville Father Charged With Assaulting His 11 Month Old Daughter Twice

ORCHARD PARK, NY ( release ) Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard announced the arrest Wednedsay of a 23 year old father, Antuan Jordan, of Springville, on three felony and two misdemeanor charges in connection with injuries he allegedly caused to his 11 month old daughter earlier this month.

The first incident happened on or about 11/9/11 when the baby was brought to Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo suffering from an apparent head injury.

The hemorrhaging in her head required her to receive a blood transfusion; she was hospitalized for five days.

As the pediatrician at the hospital could not rule out that the baby’s hemorrhaging was possibly caused by some rare blood disease, the baby was released to her parents pending the outcome of toxicology tests performed on the infant, after the father denied hitting her.

Two weeks later, the baby was re-admitted to Women and Children’s Hospital for new injuries she suffered including being hit so hard in the right eye that she suffered another hemorrhage (creating a possibility of visual impairment or even blindness). By then the toxicology tests performed on the baby during her initial admittance were received and they proved negative for any type of rare blood disorder.

After conferring with the doctor and the District Attorney’s Office regarding the baby’s injuries, Sr. Detective James Hatch interviewed Antuan Jordan who initially denied hitting his daughter and even tried blaming his 21 month old son for his sister’s injuries. Despite his denials, he was arrested and charged with the following:

Incident 11/9/11:

1 count of assault in the second degree (D) felony

1 count of endangering the welfare of a child (A) misdemeanor

Incident 11/24/11:

1 count of Assault in the second degree (D) felony

1 count of attempted assault in the second degree (E) felony

1 count of endangering the welfare of a child (A) misdemeanor

Child Protective Services (CPS) removed both children from the custody of their parents and they are staying with their maternal grandparents.

Jordan is unemployed and is from North Carolina. He followed his girlfriend and their children up here after she left him in North Carolina where he assaulted and choked her there. They got back together and Jordan was watching their children in their East Main Street apartment in Springville (where the incidents occurred) while his girlfriend worked.

Antuan Jordan was arraigned on the above mentioned charges and was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center on $75,000 bail after being arraigned Tuesday in front of Judge Reagan in Springville Town Court.
