(WKBW release) Buffalo police said Tuesday that they have arrested and charged a 49-year-old man in connection with a pair or recent bank robberies.

According to police, James Ellis -- who has no permanent address -- has been charged with two counts of third-degree robbery.

Ellis is alleged to have been involved in Monday's robbery of an HSBC branch on South Park Avenue at Abbott Road, and is also alleged to have been involved with a robbery at Northwest Savings Bank on Main Street last week.

"Detectives had noticed the similarities in the appearance of the suspect in the recent bank robbery photos, as well as the method of operation in the recent robbery spree," chief of detectives Dennis J. Richards said in the news release.  "Ellis was picked up on the 700 block of Sycamore Street by Officer Anthony R. DiSarno of the South District."
