Alden, NY (WKBW) Dionte Cooper, the teenager charged with raping a woman in Buffalo's Allentown neighborhood, now faces more charges for an incident at the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden.
The sheriff's office reports 16-year-old Cooper was involved in a confrontation with a correctional officer inside another inmate's housing unit. The officer, identified as Officer Puleo by a department spokesperson, ordered Cooper to step back.
The spokesperson tells Eyewitness News Cooper rushed Officer Puleo, causing him to set off his body alarm to call for a Response Team. Officer Puleo then brought Cooper to the floor. Cooper is accused of throwing his elbow at the officer before the Response Team arrived.
Upon arrival, the Response Team was able to subdue Cooper. Officer Puleo was taken to ECMC for treatment for shoulder and head injuries.
Cooper was taken for transport to the facility's medical unit. While in transport, the department says an officer identified as Officer Stachura was also injured by Cooper, allegedly suffering an arm injury when Cooper resisted. Officer Stachura was evaluated within the facility.
Cooper now faces additional criminal charges in this incident. He was initially brought to the correctional facility on several charges related to the sexual assault of a woman on Elmwood Avenue and Allen Street in Buffalo on July 5th. Among those charges is first-degree rape. He is additionally under investigation for attacks on Ashland Avenue and Delaware Avenue in early July.
