Off Duty Buffalo Cop Shoots Burglar In His Home

BUFFALO, N.Y - (WKBW)  - Buffalo Police is investigating a fatal shooting of a burglary suspect.

Police say an off duty police officer arrived at his Lisbon Avenue home to find his home had been ransacked around 1:20 p.m.

Some of the property discovered missing included a handgun, jewelry, and money.

The officer then heard someone coming down the stairs leading to the side door and confronted a 53-year-old man who refused to stop.

The man was shot and collapsed to the sidewalk. He died at the scene. 

Police have not released the suspect or homeowners name at this time. Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.

Internal Affairs Division personnel were also called to the scene of the officer-involved shotting and are coducting a parallel investigation.
