ALBANY, NY (WKBW) - New York Senator John Sampson has surrendered to the FBI Monday, facing charges of taking illegal campaign donations while running for District Attorney.

It is alleged he illegally took money when he ran against Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes back in 2005.

According to prosecutors, Sampson will also be charged with taking an illegal loan from a businessman in Queens to repay money he embezzled from an escrow account he controlled as a lawyer.

His surrender adds to a list of politicians charged by the feds in the past month.

Since April 1st, Senator Malcom Smith, Assemblyman Eric Stevenson, and City Councilman Daniel Halloran have all been charged by federal prosecutors.

In addition, prosecutors revealed that Senator Shirly Huntley and Assemblyman Nelson Castro secretly recorded hours of conversation with fellow politicians.
