Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - Seven years after being freed from prison, Lynn DeJac Peters lost her battle with cancer Wednesday morning.
DeJac Peters was sent to prison for a murder she did not commit. Crystallynne Gerard was found dead on February 14, 1993. A jury convicted DeJac of Gerard's death -- but evidence later cleared her name. DeJac spent 13 years behind bars, before being freed in 2007.
Evidence later pointed to DeJac's ex-boyfriend, Dennis Donohue, who was convicted of killing Joan Giambra in 2003 and remains a person of interest in the 1975 death of Carol Reed. However, Donohue had been granted immunity for testifying against DeJac.
Gerard's cause of death was later re-classified from homicide to accidental overdose.
DeJac's husband, Chuck Peters, says his wife did her best to live life to the fullest after being released from prison, but never fully recovered from her time behind bars. Watch the video to see how Peters remembers his wife.
