Niagara Falls, NY (WKBW) New York State Police troopers have charged 21-year-old Dempsey Freeman with five misdemeanors and several traffic citations after a high-speed chase in Niagara Falls.
Troopers tell Eyewitness News they saw Freeman driving his 1999 Jaguar XJ8 on Hyde Park Blvd. Monday night without wearing a seatbelt.
A trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Freeman allegedly sped off. The chase ended at Ontario and Niagara avenues, when Freeman left his Jaguar behind, jumped a fence, and ran off.
After a brief foot chase, a trooper caught up with Freeman in the attic of a home on Niagara Avenue. Freeman's relationship to the resident of that home is unknown.
While troopers chased down Freeman, Niagara County Sheriff's Deputies used a K-9 unit to search his vehicle. Inside, they found four grams of marijuana and 34 pills.
Freeman was arraigned in Niagara Falls City Court on Tuesday morning. He is charged with criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, possession more than the legal maximum of a prescribed controlled substance, and reckless driving.
Freeman is being held on $2,000 cash bail. He is due back in court on August 4, 2014.
