BUFFALO, NY ( release ) Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III announced Thursday that the Erie County Grand Jury has returned an indictment charging 56 year old Dr. James Corasanti of Amherst, New York with Vehicular Manslaughter in the 2nd degree, Manslaughter in the 2nd degree, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting resulting in death, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence.
It is alleged that on July 8, 2011 Corasanti, while driving in an intoxicated condition, caused the death of 18 year old Alexandria Rice of Williamsville by striking her with his vehicle while she was skateboarding on the shoulder of Heim Road in the Town of Amherst.
It is further alleged that Corasanti, a physician, fled the crime scene and tampered with physical evidence by allegedly removing the victim's blood and body tissue from his vehicle, and by allegedly deleting text messages from his mobile telephone.
Arraignment is scheduled for 2p.m. Thursday before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. Ditullio.
Corasanti faces a maximum of 23 years in State Prison should he be convicted of all the charges, and should the sentences be imposed consecutively.
