The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office arrested Jeremy Ikeler, 35 and
Astrid Ikeler, 38 and charged the pair with Criminally Negligent Homicide.
The arrests follow a lengthy investigation after the death of their 15 year old daughter Marissa Ikeler, an eighth grader at Letchchworth Central School.
On January 26, 2014 the teen was transported to Wyoming County Community Hospital by ambulance after she suffered a seizure and stopped breathing. She was then transferred to Women and Children's Hospital in Buffalo where she died the next day.
Results of an autopsy conducted by the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office were returned on May 2, 2014 and revealed Marissa was not receiving proper care and medication for an existing condition and the cause of death was ruled a Homicide due to Medical Neglect.
Jeremy and Astrid Ikeler were arrested after the case was heard by a Wyoming County Grand jury on August 26th. The parents were subsequently indicted for Criminally Negligent Homicide and arrested on August 27th.
The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office says the family was living in Texas while Jeremy was stationed in the Army there but returned to the Town of Castile after he completed his commitment in the military.
Investigators say Marissa was seeing a specialist while in Texas, but never received care when the family moved to Castile.
Officials have not yet released what condition Marissa suffered from.
The Ikeler's have two other children who are now in the care of a relative.
The parents remain in the Wyoming County Jail on $5000 bail and are scheduled for their next court appearance on October 23rd.
