Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - The murder trial against an Amherst mother accused of killing her eight-year-old daughter resumes on Wednesday.

Prosecutors accuse Candace Cartagena of killing eight-year-old Bianca Cartagena four years ago.

The defense rested its case two weeks ago, after calling its only witness, Doctor Jonathan Arden, to the stand. Arden testified that a heart disease killed Bianca.

On Wednesday, the prosecution plans to use Doctor Kim Collins to refute that testimony.

Collins, a pediatric medical examiner, is expected to side with the prosecution that Bianca died from asphyxiation.

Collins is the final witness scheduled to testify in the Cartagena murder trial.

Channel 7 will be at the trial and have the latest on EWN at 5 and 6.
