CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (WKBW) - Authorities said two men entered the IHOP Sunday night around 8 p.m. They were armed with a gun and a knife demanding cash.
Six people, employees and customers, were forced into a back office. The suspects were yelling for the workers to open the restaurant safe. The employees locked themselves into the office so the suspect could not get to them.
The two men then attempted to open the safe. When the lock wouldn't open, they fled the scene. Authorities called in the S.W.A.T team and surrounded the building.
"It's a standard procedure that when you respond to the scene of an in progress crime that you would set up a perimeter so you can contain anybody who would be attempting to leave scene," Lt. Gerald Jankowski said.
The suspects were already gone when police arrived. As for the victim's, they were escorted out of the building one by one. Medical personnel on scene examined all six people. No one was injured during this crime.
Police are searching for the suspects. If you have any information call the Cheektowaga Police at 686-3500.
