Armed Robbery In Amherst

AMHERST, NY ( release ) Amherst Police arrested a twenty one year old Tonawanda man and charged him with the armed robbery of Moe's Southwest Grill at 1551 Niagara Falls Blvd. late Friday evening.

Steven McKeel was taken into custody around Midnight Friday by Amherst Police Detectives and Town of Tonawanda Police.

Workers in the restaurant heard someone knocking at the side door shortly after closing. When they opened it they were ordered back inside by a masked bandit armed with a handgun. The robber then ordered four employees into the cooler and forced the manager to open the safe at the restaurant.

He then allegedly fled out of the restaurant with an undetermined amount of cash.

By interviewing witnesses, detectives were able to identify McKeel as the suspect. He was taken into custody near his Kingsbury Lane residence and charged with robbery in the 1st degree, grand larceny in the 4th degree, weapons possession, and menacing.

Detectives Thomas Westbrook, Robert Cunningham, and James Jackson arrested McKeel with the assistance of Town of Tonawanda Officers Matt Seelbach and Corey Flatau.

More arrests may be pending as detectives continue their investigation.
