Albany, N.Y. (WKBW) - A scandal in Albany had many concerned. They are calling it "Malcolm in the Middle" because it centers on Senator Malcolm Smith trying to pay to get his name on the New York City Mayoral ballot. This is the latest example of why many said Albany is broken, corrupt and in need of an overhaul.
"It is very, very troubling we have zero tolerance for any violation for the public integrity or public trust," Governor Cuomo said.
A new ad for Campaign Finance Reform has been released. The group that made the ads suggests scandals in Albany are commonplace. Over the years, several arrests have been made. Politician after politician have been busted for selling votes to the highest bidder.
"We've had 15 elected officials in the last 13 years go from state legislator to the state penitentiary so that's a bad pattern," a representative with the Campaign for Finance Reform said.
In New York, an individual can donate more than $10,000 to a candidate. That is more than three times what you can donate to a person running for president.
