BUFFALO, NY (release) - Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda joined Mayor Byron Brown to announce an arrest in connection with a weekend shooting on Northland Avenue.
Shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, homicide detectives took 14 year old Myles D. Taylor, III into custody and charged him with second degree murder in connection with the Saturday shooting death of 16 year old Kelmyne Jones, Jr.
"Tragedies like this hurt - they hurt everybody - and tonight my thoughts and prayers are with the family of Kelmyne Jones,” said Mayor Brown. “I want residents to know that we remain committed to solving homicides and our police department works hard every day to bring people to justice. Our message to criminals is clear, if you commit a homicide in this city, we will find you and arrest you.”
“The case came together quickly and we were able to make an arrest, thanks to the great cooperation from the public,” stated Commissioner Derenda.
Responding police had learned that there was a large fight immediately prior to the shooting. The victim was found collapsed in a driveway in the 200 block of Northland Avenue at 3:50 p.m.
The homicide investigation was led by Homicide Squad Detectives Brian Ross and Scott Malec. 14 year old Myles Taylor, III is being charged as an adult at the present time, with further court proceedings to take place.
