THOROLD, O.N. (WKBW) - A 13-year-old boy was injured in a hit and run accident Thursday.
Police say at approximately 5:55 pm, a westbound line of traffic was stopped on the east side of the Allanburg Bridge at Highway 20 and Centre Street.
A 13-year-old boy and his friend were riding their bicycles across the intersection while the stopped traffic was controlled by a red light. A pickup truck suddenly passed the stationary line of traffic westbound toward the bridge, which is reduced to one lane. The pickup truck struck and drove over the front of the bicycle of the 13 year old boy, throwing him to the ground where he sustained minor injuries.
Witnesses describe the truck then accelerating toward, and being last seen traveling westbound over the Allanburg Bridge.
Witnesses described the pickup truck as a newer model black Ford F-150, possible crew/extended cab with notable chrome details, and a vanity/theme plate displaying a poppy.
The boy was wearing proper cycling gear which likely reduced the severity of his injuries.
