Quick moving flames spread throughout the Evans Bank, located at 4979 Transit Road in Lancaster.

The fire started just before 6:00 p.m., Sunday.  Fire could be seen pouring through the windows on the side of the building. We're told the fire never spread to where the vault was located.

No one was inside the building when the fire started.

The fire has caused the bank to close indefinitely.  Customers are being told to visit any other Evans location, including those in West Seneca, Clarence and Williamsville. About $500,000 in damage is estimated at this time.

Employees of this bank branch are being reassigned to the Williamsville bank branch on Main Street and North Forest.

"While we are disappointed in the loss of property, we are pleased to report that the building was empty at the time of the fire, so no injuries resulted from it," said David Nasca, President and CEO of Evans Bancorp and Evans Bank.

Lancaster police say that after a three hour investigation, the fire is not considered suspicious. The investigations continues.
