Crash closes portion of Grand Island Boulevard

A tractor trailer driver was charged with Driving While Intoxicated after being involved in a head-on crash Tuesday night.

Town of Tonawanda Police said a minivan was traveling westbound on Grand Island Boulevard around 8:19 p.m. when it crossed over the double yellow lines and hit an eastbound tractor trailer truck head on.

Tracey Ann Boryszak was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment. She was the driver of the minivan and suffered serious injuries.

Michael P. Ohara was driving the tractor trailer truck and was not hurt.  He was later arrested for D.W.I.

Grand Island Boulevard was closed between Kenmore Avenue and 2-Mile Creek Road for most of the evening.

The department's Accident Investigation Unit continues to investigate the crash.  Further charges could be filed.
