A Food and Drug Administration committee voting that the controversial diabetes drug Avandia should stay on the market. At issue here was some potentially dangerous side effects, including a greater risk of heart problems and death.
In the end, a majority of the panel did not find enough evidence to remove the drug from the market.
The FDA is not required to follow the panel's advice, although it usually does. A final decision will be made in the next few months.
