CHINA'S PROBLEM PRODUCTS

Industries, of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, for high levels of lead
that can be toxic if ingested by young children
-- 800 Mag Stix Magnetic Building Sets sold by Kipp Brothers, of
Carmel, Indiana, for choking hazard
-- 68,000 Shape Sorting Toy Castles sold by Infantino LLC, of
San Diego, California, for choking hazard
Chinese authorities:
-- inspectors across the country seized five types of diet
supplements which contained banned substances like phenolphthalein,
a potentially cancer-causing laxative
-- from 1998-2005, Chinese drug regulators approved six
medicines that turned out to be fake
-- one antibiotic blamed for at least 10 deaths
-- crafting new regulations on dental care products after a
potentially deadly chemical found in antifreeze found in shipments
to North and South America and Asia
-- recalling two brands of diapers after spot checks found
excessive fungus. No word on if they were exported or caused
problems.
-- in southwest China's Guangxi region inspectors found
excessive additives and preservatives in nearly 40 percent of 100
children's snacks
-- closed 180 food factories the first half of this year and
seized tons of candy, pickles, crackers and seafood tainted with
formaldehyde, illegal dyes and industrial wax.
US recalled or restricted:
-- seasoning made with imported Chinese ingredients contaminated
with salmonella used on recalled snack foods

to pet food containing Chinese wheat gluten tainted with the
chemical melamine.

tread from separating
-- toothpaste containing diethylene glycol, a toxic ingredient
often found in antifreeze
-- seafood after repeated testing turned up contamination with
drugs not approved in America for use in farmed seafood
