IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - Gateway and the U-S Consumer Product
Safety Commission have announced a voluntary recall of lithium-ion
battery packs because some shipped with some Gateway notebook
computers pose a fire danger.
The commission says the battery packs can overheat and pose a
fire hazard. Gateway has received four reports of battery packs
overheating, including minor property damage. No injuries have been
reported.
About 14-thousand battery packs have been shipped as the primary
or spare power sources for two series of notebooks.
The commission says this is not an internal battery cell defect.
