Safe Kids Worldwide will be unveiling the first-ever U.S. study ranking each state according to its childrens accidental injury deaths in the summer months. Preventable injury is still the number one killer and disabler of children during summer months. In fact, in 2004 17 children died a day from an accidental injury from May 1st to August 31st.

In 2005 there were nearly 2.4 million emergency room visits by children 14 and under during the summer due to accidental injuries

Accidental summer injuries to children claimed 2,143 lives in 2004

The release of The Safe Kids U.S. Summer Safety Ranking Report helps kick off National Safe Kids Week, which coincides with the beginning of trauma season, the months from May to August when unintentional injuries to children increase dramatically.
