Soaring demand for glass used in flat-screen televisions and computers has more than tripled
first-quarter profits at Corning Incorporated. The upstate New York-based maker of specialty glass and ceramics reports this
morning that its earnings climbed more than 1 billion dollars in the January-to-March period. Corning is the world's largest maker
of liquid crystal display glass.
