A unique store has opened on East Avenue in the City of Lockport.

“We are Pulp 716, a comic book store with a small cafe,” owner Amy Berent said. “Lockport is up and coming and everyone is banding together to get it to where it used to be. We hope our store gives a jump start to a resurgence of business around here.

Amy and husband Jay say their store is more than just comics.

“We do new issues for comics, we have merchandise and a record player available for customer use. We have records but customers are encouraged to bring in their own,” Amy said.

One of the unique aspects is their drinks with Bubble Tea and historically accurate coffee.

“We do an 1830 Canal Blend. It is the same coffee they drank when they built the canal. We have a 1964 blend, same coffee they drank when the Beatles came to America. We also have a 1977 blend. It is the coffee people stayed warm with during the blizzard,” Jay said.

The Berents say their goal is to support their community and many local causes.

“We have a painter coming in, we have photographers and authors,” Amy said.

They also team up with other local businesses.

“There is a coffee shop down the street and instead of competing with them we are selling their bake goods,” Jay said.

The couple said they hope that this store can be part of a bigger, better Lockport.

“Turn this into a more walkable Main Street area in Lockport,” Amy said.
