It's going to be a very cold St. Valentine's weekend friends. Staying warm and toasty indoors is wholeheartedly recommended.

However, if you need to be outside, please remember: to avoid frostbite by covering every part of your body, especially your ears, nose, toes and fingers.

Mittens are better than gloves and keep your skin dry. Stay out of the wind when possible and drink plenty of fluids since hydration increases the blood's volume, which helps prevent frostbite.

Avoid caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes. Caffeine constricts blood vessels, preventing warming of your extremities, alcohol reduces shivering which also helps keep you warm, and cigarette smoking shuts off the blood flow to your hands.

Chocolate, especially heart-shaped, is definitely endorsed as a warming agent on this special, but chilly, weekend.
