Cazenovia Creek was above flood level at 10.61 feet at 5:00 p.m. Monday and Buffalo Creek is expected to crest soon.
This is creating a lot of problems and dangerous for drivers.
There are several road closures in areas including Orchard Park, Alden, Elma, Marilla, Boston and more. Some roadways are covered in three to four inches of water. The sheriff’s office reminds motorists to “Turn around, don’t down.”
The county executive is reminding people many parts of Western New York remain in a state of emergency and he urges use extreme caution going forward.
“Be aware of falling branches and trees that may be uprooted due to high winds, which will likely cause power outages,” Poloncarz said.
There is a wind warning and damaged trees could be an issue. NYSEG and National Grid have extra crews in the area to handle potential outages. National Grid says it has secured more than 150 generators to support power restoration efforts.
If you are in need of shelter, the Red Cross is set up at Iroquois Middle School in Elma. There also various other staging centers around the region.
Governor Andrew Cuomo said Monday that Western New York has to have sustained at least $27 million in damage to quality for aid from FEMA. He encourages all residents to save their receipts of the damage.
