Buffalo Niagara unemployment rate down

The jobless rate for the Buffalo Niagara region measured 7.0 percent in October, down from 7.7 percent a year ago.

The state Department of Labor released the local unemployment breakdown Tuesday.

Across New York, unemployment was at 7.7 percent last month, down from 8.0 a year ago and better than the national average of 8.5 percent.

Among other Upstate New York metropolitan areas, Rochester has a jobless rate of 6.7 percent, down year-over-year from 7.4 percent while Syracuse was at 7.2 percent compared to 7.8 percent last year.
