It's a big week on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC.) The new Gates Vascular Institute is open. The first patients were treated there over the past two days, more will be transferred there this week. Cardiac, stroke and vascular care from two separate Kaleida sites will now be under one roof.

Patrick Whalen is the COO of the BNMC. He says the new facility is designed to let medical research, health care and business flow. "Collaborators on the top floor go down to practice surgery on the bottom five floors and if they had come up with an idea to make surgery better they can actually implement it on the middle floor and hopefully commercialize a company."

Millard Fillmore Gates Circle will officially close its doors at 6 a.m. Wednesday, as all services are transferred to the new facility.
