Another local family has made a $1 million gift to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, putting it a step closer to completing a $40 million capital campaign.

The gift comes from Albert and Katherine "Kit " Maroone of Boca Raton, Fla., who previously lived in Buffalo and were owners The Maroone Auto Group.

The funds benefit the Making Room to Save Lives capital campaign, bringing the total raised to $32.1 million. Last month, Roswell Park announced details of the Circle of 10, made up of another 10 families who contributed $1 million apiece to the campaign.

The campaign will enable the construction of a Clinical Sciences Center, as well as expansion of the hospital's chemotherapy infusion clinic, comprehensive breast services and patient education/survivorship services.

Albert Maroone, a Niagara Falls native who was raised in Buffalo, said in a prepared statement the couple believes in the mission of Roswell Park and invests in medical, research and education programs.

"We're really advocates of Western New York because that's where we lived most of our lives," he said. "I try not to forget where we came from, which is why we want to give whatever we can to the Buffalo area."
