Zoom Tan LLC, a Florida-based chain of tanning salons, is planning a major expansion across upstate New York.

Officials said the firm may open at least 20 new locations in the coming months. That alone makes it interesting and noteworthy.

But, the added clincher is that Zoom Tan is owned by B. Thomas Golisano, the Rochester billionaire and gubernatorial candidate who owned the Buffalo Sabres and founded PayChex. Golisano changed his official residence to Florida four years ago because of New York's high tax structure. He sold the Sabres to Terry Pegula in 2011.

Zoom Tan opened its first upstate site in Canandaigua last summer. Others are in Victor and Batavia with locations coming to Brockport, Chili, Webster and Penfield.

Additionally, the company just signed a partnership pact with the Buffalo Bills to be the team's "official tanning salon" of the NFL squad.

Besides its upstate expansion, Zoom Tan is eyeing Pennsylvania and Ohio as places to add more salons.
