Falls hospital expansion approved

Weeks after filing plans with the state, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has received approval to move ahead with a $2 million renovation.

The project was approved by State Department of Health officials on Aug. 23.

The renovation of the sixth floor adult mental health unit includes expanding therapy rooms and clinical space, as well as creating a new group counseling room.

Plans call for adding 1,640 square feet to be used for health education and wellness classes; a primary care center; and a the new Niagara Connection Project, a short-term intensive psychiatric treatment program.
