Zippo plans to make its 500 millionth windproof pocket lighter on June 5.

Zippo, which is based in Bradford, Pa., will mark another milestone the same day -- the birthday of its founder, the late George Blaisdell. Bradford is just over the state line from Cattaraugus County.

June 5 will be devoted to producing copies of the special "500 Millionth Zippo lighter" and a limited-edition lighter. The "500 Millionth" replica will have a brushed chrome body and two-tone engraving with a stamp on the bottom with the month, day and year of production.

Both lighters will be available for purchase.

"We are looking forward to making the sparks fly as we celebrate this accomplishment with our employees and Zippo enthusiasts around the world," said Zippo President and CEO Greg Booth.
