The operators of Swain Resort have exercised their lease-to-own agreement and formally purchased the Allegany County recreational destination.

Denton Hill Family and Ski Resort Inc., which also operates Ski Denton in Potter County, Pa., bought Swain after operating the resort since August 2009. The officers of Denton Hill and Ski Resort include Scott and Jodi Carts and Shawn and Celeste Schoonover.

The Allegany County Office of Development and Allegany County Industrial Development Agency provided incentives to help cement the deal.

Swain has been operating for the past 64 years. The new owners are planning a series of investments to beef up its offering of skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing in the winter months and mountain biking, motor cross racing and sportsman festivals during the other times of the year.

"We are excited about the possibilities that the future holds for Swain and our customers," Scott Carts said.

This past summer, more than 3,000 feet of new snowmaking lines were installed.

Last year, the operators purchased the nearby Mountainside Inn to create a "ski and stay" package.

Other improvements are slated, ranging from more snowmaking machines to amenity upgrades.
