Approximately 40 jobs will be lost as Western New York's Science Kit moves part of its operation to Rochester.

VWR Education says it will consolidate its Tonawanda warehouse operations into its existing Rochester location. The move is scheduled for January 2012 and will make the company more efficient, officials said.

Science Kit was founded in Tonawanda in the 1950s. It is now part of VWR Education, a family of companies that provides products for classroom and laboratory learning. Science Kit specializes in educational science kits for teachers.

Tonawanda warehouse employees were notified on Oct. 21. The company says it will provide resources, such as severance and outplacement services, to those displaced employees.

VWR Education currently employs about 110 people in Tonawanda. More than 70 office workers will keep their jobs. Company officials say the office operations will not be affected by warehouse relocation.
