It pays to be a CEO. The typical corporate CEO makes more than $200,000 in 45 different U.S. Markets, according to On Numbers report.

In the Buffalo area, the average CEO salary is about $175,000. Buffalo ranks 133rd out of 400 cities across the country in the report.

On Numbers based the report on figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The average worker in Buffalo Niagara (Erie & Niagara counties) makes $42,520, ranking Buffalo 130th nationwide.

Many other upstate New York areas beat Buffalo. Albany ranks 57th, with average salary of $47,280. Ithaca was next at no. 69. Syracuse was 90th, followed by Rochester, no. 101.

Here's a look at the highest paid cities. Researchers say the typical worker in San Jose, CA is paid $69,880, followed by San Francisco at $64,820.

Rounding out the top five were Washington ($63,720), Boston ($60,390) and Connecticut's Bridgeport-Stamford area ($59,820).
