Stock values for many public companies in WNY jumped in the first quarter of the year. A report in this week's Business First looks at the numbers and says Taylor Devices tops the list. The North Tonawanda company makes shock absorbers, seismic dampers and energy storage devices. Its stock price jumped nearly 80 percent in the past year and topped $10 at the end of the first quarter. Business First says the company is now expanding manufacturing space to take on more work.

Here's a look at the other top public companies in WNY, based on the jump in stock prices. Taylor Devices had the biggest growth. Astronics Corporation is second, followed by Sovran Self Storage, Gibraltar Industries and Servotronics at number five.
The complete list is in this week's Business First.

New wineries are saying cheers on the Niagara Wine Trail. The trail is now home to 16 wineries. Two new sites opened in the past year: Long Cliff Vineyard and Arrowhead Spring Vineyards. The report says the trail is creating new opportunities for old farm families, but is also an outlet for entrepreneurs who want to try something new.
