The average pay is $13,500, plus tips. The average rate across the country was $15,800. In 21 markets, the industry employs more than 100,000 people. New York City tops the list, with more than 543,000 restaurant and hotel jobs!
Real estate signs means job security to many people. The report shows how more than 6,600 people depend on the industry for jobs in WNY, that's about a quarter of a billion dollars in salaries. The average pay in the industry is $36,000 here. The U.S. average is about $40,000. Once again, New York City tops the list.
The Royal Canadian Mint will strike its last penny this fall. The cost of minting a penny has risen to 1.6 cents, while its purchasing power has fallen to 5 percent of its original value. Pennies will still be legal tender, but will slowly vanish from circulation. Merchants will be instructed to round prices up or down to the closest nickel.
