The Buffalo area is weathering the recession better than other places. A report by On Numbers shows that Buffalo Niagara is better off than 80% of the nation's major metro areas. It shows that Erie and Niagara Cos. have lost 5,600 jobs in the past four years. That's a decline of one percent, but many other areas have had bigger declines. In fact, 94 of the nation's 100 biggest markets have few jobs now than when the recession began.

Only six major metro areas have added jobs since the recession and five of them are in Texas. Houston tops the list, adding 43,400 jobs. The only non-Texas market to register a four year gain is New Orleans. The report is based on numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
