What to do with an empty hospital?

This fall, Millard Fillmore Gates medical services will beginning shifting to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. Within a year, the 10-story hospital building will be empty. Out-of-town architects and planners from the Urban Land Institute suggest a mixed use development for the site. A report in this week's Business First says Kaleida is supposed to begin community meetings this month to gather public input on the future of the site.

HSBC Bank is out with a new website focusing on commercial and international banking. That is HSBC's new focus as it sells nearly 200 branches to First Niagara. The new website, www.businesswithoutborders.com, is marketed as a "knowledge exchange" tool for businesses. You can find a link at wkbw.com, under Newslinks.

Tony Walker & Co. is expanding just in time for the holiday season. The retailer is the first one to sign up at the Niagara Holiday Market in Niagara Falls. The Market will run from Nov. 25 to Jan. 1, along Old Falls Street, beginning at Third Avenue. It is modeled after European holiday markets, with a merchants row. Shoppers will also find an outdoor skating rink and entertainment.
