Gibraltar Industries added three businesses at the end of 2012. The acquisitions total $31 million. Officials tell Business First the undisclosed product lines are in three key U.S. Markets: sun protection for residential construction, components for public infrastructure.. and metal products for industrial and automotive applications. Officials say the lines will strengthen Gibraltar's position in those markets.

Overall manufacturing is down, according to the latest Empire State Index released this week. The New York Federal Reserve Bank says its general business index is a minus-7.8 for January. That's the sixth consecutive monthly decline. But about a quarter of respondents say conditions are improving.

If your company stands out in the manufacturing sector, Business First and Insyte Consulting will recognize area manufacturing companies this year. The deadline to take part is February 22.
