Kaleida Health and Roswell Park Cancer Institute are teaming up. The new John R. Oishei Children's Hospital of Buffalo will include an entire floor dedicated to children's cancer care through a collaborative agreement. A report in this week's Business First looks at the plan, which calls for building a pediatric hematology oncology unit on the top floor of the 12-story hospital. It is planned for the corner of High and Ellicott Streets.
Construction is expected begin in the spring, with the new facility expected to open in 2016. It is a $220 million project.

Area small-business owners are taking out bigger loans from the Small Business Administration. A report in this week's Business First shows how 331 7(a) loans were approved this fiscal year for a total of $59 million. Nearly half of the loans went to restaurant, manufacturing, medical or construction operations. Back in 2008, the average loan was just under $100,000. By 2010, the average loan topped $155,000. And this year, the average loan tops $178,000.
