Tops Markets is out with the Rx Timer Cap, the latest in prescription technology. It's a smart cap with a built-in LCD timer. It has a digital readout that works like a stop watch. It counts the hours and minutes since the container was last opened to tell patients exactly how long it has been since they took their last dose. When you open and close the container, the timer is reset. Tops say it can reduce medication errors. The stores are giving out free Timer Caps with any prescription purchase. They fit regular prescription bottles and last about two years. Tops is the first pharmacy in New York to offer the Timer Caps.
A report in this week's Business First shows how some area classrooms are going paperless, thanks to Tumblr. It is a blog-hosting platform used as an educational tool by many teachers these days. In Jennifer Licata's art classes at Mount Mercy Academy, Tumblr blogs are used for all homework assignments. They're posted on Tumblr through Google Docs. Students get reminders sent to their cell phones and submit homework from phones. The teacher started using Tumblr as a way to reduce waste and go green.
