The Batavia Town Board will seek a $1 million state grant to assist construction of a massive yogurt plant.

The board is seeking the money from the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal, according to the Batavia Daily News.

Pepsico and a German company are partners in Project Wave, which is building a yogurt plant in the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park. The plant is expected to create 186 jobs.

Construction of the 363,000-square-foot facility began on Thursday.

The $1 million sought by the Town of Batavia is part of more than $20 million in state and local incentives being pursued by Project Wave, including tax abatements and credits.
