It's a big weekend for area restaurants. Many are hoping to impress visitors and land new regular customers. Nearly 200 independent, locally owned restaurants are taking part in Local Restaurant Week, which runs through Sunday. You can eat out for $20.12. At some restaurants, two people can eat for that price.
Peter Longo, with WNY Chapter of the NYS Restaurant Association, says the variety ranges from Italian to Thai and everything in between. One thing the restaurants have in common, they are locally owned and they're counting on area customers.
"So dine out. Eat local. Eat well," Longo said. "And, just as a reminder, that money spent at local restaurants and locally owned operations recycles through the local economy at five times greater than at non-locally-owned restaurants and businesses."
Restaurant Week organizers say owners and waiters love this week, while cooks and dishwashers hate it, because they are pretty busy!
