New airport hotel

A new Hampton Inn, with 109 rooms, will be built near the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. A report in today's Business First shows how Canadians flying out of Buffalo airport, and shopping
at the Walden Galleria, played a big role in the $6.5 million project. Canadians account for more than 35 percent of airport traffic and make up 50 percent of shoppers at the Galleria on weekends and holidays.

Buffalo Airport Hotel LLC, an affiliate of Maryland-based Baywood Hotels, purchased 3.3 acres at Buell Avenue and Genesee Street. Buffalo Airport Hotel LLC paid $1.4 million for the property.

Construction on the Hampton Inn is expected to start this summer, with the hotel likely to welcome its first guests next spring. You can read more in today's Business First.

New York state tops the nation in public school spending. The U.S. Census Bureau says it allocates 73 percent more than the national average. In 2009, per-pupil spending in New York was more than $18,000. Average across the country was just over $10,000. In all, the Census Bureau says total public school spending in the U.S. in 2009 added up to nearly $605 billion.
