Call it another sign of spring.
Beaver Island State Golf Course will open for the season on April 5 with reduced rates in an effort to bring more duffers to the course. Many other private courses have gotten the jump on the season in recent weeks.
State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Rose Harvey said the earlier opening is due to the warmer-than-expected winter and early spring weather.
"Our fine spring weather provides a great opportunity to check out one of our wonderful State Park golf courses," said Harvey in a news release. "Beaver Island has opened up early this year, and offers great value as well as challenging play. We hope to see our regular golfers and many new visitors hitting the links soon."
Greens fees for an 18-hole round was been reduced from $25 to $22 on weekends and to $18 from $21 on weekdays.
Spring, fall and mid-day specials may also be offered by checking the state park's website, www.nysparks.com.
