For the first time since it opened in 2004, the Hamburg Casino at the Fairgrounds will serve as a backdrop for a wedding.
A local couple, Monica Conlon and Mike Santasiero, who wanted to get married on Friday, which just happens to be 11-11-11, quickly found out that all local municipal buildings were closed because of the Veteran's Day holiday.
So, the couple contacted the Hamburg Casino to see if they could get married there, sort of like their version of a Las Vegas wedding. The casinos operators, Delaware North Cos. Gaming & Entertainment - an arm of Buffalo's Delaware North Cos., agreed.
Actually, Delaware North not only agreed, the company is providing a complimentary reception for the couple and their guests to mark the casino's first-ever wedding.
"Both Monica and Mike are regulars - and good players - and are excited to get married here at the casino," said Laura Galligan, the casino's marketing director. "He's luckier on the machines, but they are both lucky in love."
The ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m. in a private dining area off of the Midway Buffet. The free reception will include a buffet dinner and champagne for 10 guests and free play for the gaming floor.
